April 26, 1937 ~ October 22, 2008
Einar Wickman Bergstedt, 71, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in Spring City, Utah. Einar was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 26, 1937 to Henrik Waldemar and Ruth Nilsen Bergstedt. He married Connie Acord in the Manti LDS Temple on June 20, 1964. To them were born three beloved children, Stacy Lynn, Lisa Ayn and Matthew Einar.
Einar was an Eagle Scout and was in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served an LDS Mission to Norway, the homeland of his parents, where he served as a counselor to the mission president. He was educated in Salt Lake at Garfield Elementary, Irving Jr. High and East High School, graduating in the class of 1956. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Brigham Young University, paying his way through college by working in construction. He taught high school before joining Harman’s Kentucky Fried Chicken where he worked for 35 years. He and Connie spent 40 years living in the California Bay area before moving back to Salt Lake.
Einar treasured his family, not only his wife, children and precious grandchildren, but also his siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. He took every opportunity to visit them just as he did his many friends around the world. Einar had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most recently as Executive Secretary to the bishopric of his ward. Einar thrived on hard work. He collected tools of every kind, from a wrench to a backhoe. He loved restoring pioneer log cabins in Spring City, one of his favorite spots on earth. We appreciated Einar’s playful sense of humor, his kindness, loyalty and generosity to everyone.
Einar is survived by his wife, Connie, his daughters Stacy Wright (Roland) and Lisa Ortega (Shayne), his daughter-in-law Ingjerd Bergstedt (Eric Knight) and grandchildren Jakob and Erik Bergstedt, Ellen Wright, Anthony Einar Ortega, and Katie, Kelly and Jacob Knight. Also, His brothers, Jack Bergstedt (Ronda), Steven Bergstedt (Irene) and his sisters, Helen Bradshaw and Sonja Ruth Anthony (Glenn). He was preceded in death by his son Matthew, his parents, his sister Eleanor Horton, his brother-in-law Frank Bradshaw, and his wife’s parents, Frank and Faun Acord.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Arlington Hills Ward on Virginia Street and Fairfax Road (335 North 1350 East), Salt Lake City, 84103. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South and at the church from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
