April 26, 1937 ~ October 22, 2008
Einar Wickman Bergstedt, 71, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in Spring City, Utah. Einar was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 26, 1937 to Henrik Waldemar and Ruth Nilsen Bergstedt. He married Connie Acord in the Manti LDS Temple on June 20, 1964. To them were born three beloved children, Stacy Lynn, Lisa Ayn and Matthew Einar.
Einar was an Eagle Scout and was in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served an LDS Mission to Norway, the homeland of his parents, where he served as a counselor to the mission president. He was educated in Salt Lake at Garfield Elementary, Irving Jr. High and East High School, graduating in the class of 1956. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Brigham Young University, paying his way through college by working in construction. He taught high school before joining Harman’s Kentucky Fried Chicken where he worked for 35 years. He and Connie spent 40 years living in the California Bay area before moving back to Salt Lake.
Einar treasured his family, not only his wife, children and precious grandchildren, but also his siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. He took every opportunity to visit them just as he did his many friends around the world. Einar had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most recently as Executive Secretary to the bishopric of his ward. Einar thrived on hard work. He collected tools of every kind, from a wrench to a backhoe. He loved restoring pioneer log cabins in Spring City, one of his favorite spots on earth. We appreciated Einar’s playful sense of humor, his kindness, loyalty and generosity to everyone.
Einar is survived by his wife, Connie, his daughters Stacy Wright (Roland) and Lisa Ortega (Shayne), his daughter-in-law Ingjerd Bergstedt (Eric Knight) and grandchildren Jakob and Erik Bergstedt, Ellen Wright, Anthony Einar Ortega, and Katie, Kelly and Jacob Knight. Also, His brothers, Jack Bergstedt (Ronda), Steven Bergstedt (Irene) and his sisters, Helen Bradshaw and Sonja Ruth Anthony (Glenn). He was preceded in death by his son Matthew, his parents, his sister Eleanor Horton, his brother-in-law Frank Bradshaw, and his wife’s parents, Frank and Faun Acord.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Arlington Hills Ward on Virginia Street and Fairfax Road (335 North 1350 East), Salt Lake City, 84103. Sherry Acord Renfroe, of Edmond, wife of Dr. Jerry D. Renfroe, M.D., passed away on Saturday, 29 March 2008 in Durango, Colorado of natural causes at the age of 69. Sherry had been battling several conditions, including leukemia and congestive heart failure. She was visiting their Colorado vacation home, her favorite place to be, when she became irreversibly ill. All of her children flew there to be with her during her final week in the hospital, as she gave a good fight to survive. Now she is with the Lord, along with many of her family who have gone before her, including her twin sister, her mother, and her father, who died exactly twenty years prior, to the exact day. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, Sherry was loved by many. A devout Christian and lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was always active in the Church and could be found there leading choirs, singing with her beautiful voice, and teaching. She was always involved in the Deer Creek community as her children grew up active in various school activities. A lover of beautiful things, Sherry enjoyed decorating and remodeling their home, hosting parties and gatherings, including her famous “Christmas Breakfast,” planning all of her children’s weddings, and simply any other task people would ask her help on. She loved spending time at Lake Eufaula at the Family cabin, where she’d swim, boat and ride the wave-runner with her kids and later, grandkids. She dearly loved her circle of lifelong friends, who had a tradition of going out to lunch together often. Her greatest legacy, however, will be her grandchildren, ranging in ages of eighteen down to age two, including twins and triplets, of which all twenty-one grandkids worshiped her as she was the perfect, most loving grandma in the world. Sherry is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Dr. Jerry D. Renfroe, her five children, Jerry P. Renfroe (and wife Melissa) of California; Kathleen Soukup (and husband Eric) of Edmond; Jennifer L. Kennedy (and husband Levi) of North Carolina; Deborah K. Renfroe (and husband Graham Fishburn) of Blanchard; and Robyn R. Cowan (and husband Carter) of Broken Arrow. She is also survived by her siblings, Connie Bergstedt, Susan Barlocker, Vickie Bybee, Donald Acord, and Tammy Ririe, as well as by her twenty-one grandchildren and various aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. There will a viewing for her on Wednesday evening, 2 April from 6-8 p.m. at Baggerley Funeral Home , 930 S. Broadway in Edmond. Her funeral is Thursday, 3 April at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (North Stake Center), 5020 N.W. 63rd Street in Oklahoma City.
